Recycling Facility Operator - First Shift


Midwest Labor is hiring for a Day Shift position at a scrap metal sorting metal yard in the Eau Claire area.

- Filling one day shift position. 5:45am – 6pm (12hr shifts)
- Work weeks are Monday – Thursday (~48hrs / week)
- Plus every other Friday as needed (~60hrs / week)

We are looking for reliable people with a strong work ethic and attention to safety.

This is a temp position with a high probability of being offered a full-time position after the probationary period of 3 months.

Job Overview

The First Shift Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment and maintaining the overall cleanliness and efficiency of the recycling facility. While equipment operation is a key part of this role, significant time will be spent performing general cleaning, material handling, and supporting other plant operations as needed.

Essential Duties

  • Operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, skid steers, front-end loaders, scissor lifts, and boom lifts.
  • Maintain and clean the grounds of the recycling facility, including material areas and work zones.
  • Assist in loading, weighing, and dumping bins of material.
  • Support facility operations by covering deck and sorter positions (1, 2, or 3) during breaks or staffing shortages.
  • Complete cross-training in all plant positions, including all three picking stations (Sorter 1, 2, and 3) and deck positions, before independent equipment operation.
  • Ensure equipment and work areas are safe, clean, and properly maintained.
  • Follow all plant safety and operational procedures.
  • Note: applicants should be comfortable working in dusty conditions

Required

  • Must wear, 6 inch lace up boots (leather with steel or composite toes)
  • Non baggy jeans or pants with holes in them
  • No jackets/sweatshirts with hoods are allowed
  • You’ll also be required to do some PPE (personal protection equipment) safety training
  • If you get an offer, you’ll need to respond with 24hrs or they will move on to the next candidate
  • You must be dependable and show up on time

Desired

  • Prior experience operating forklifts or heavy equipment preferred; training will be provided.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to safety and operational detail.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor and housekeeping tasks as needed.
  • Reliable attendance and flexibility to assist in multiple roles.

Pay: $21.75 / hr hourly
